The challenge

North Yorkshire County Council asked us to develop wayfinding design through a bespoke range of pedestrian signage and mapping to encourage visitors to explore this historic spa town. The key issue was to encourage wider exploration by pedestrians and cyclists, highlighting the range of attractions, landmarks, and open spaces throughout the town.

What we did

The sign family consists of monoliths, wall mounted signs, and fingerposts using the Harrogate skyline as the coordinating identity feature. We developed heads-up mapping to highlight key pedestrian paths, landmarks, and cycle routes. We also developed digital interpretation through a mobile website, accessed via smartphones and tablets, that features interpretation and images for a number of key locations within Harrogate.

The solution

We were able to create something truly unique for Harrogate that allowed us to shine a light on everything special about the town.
