The Challenge:
Manchester Metropolitan University is undergoing a renaissance. There are eight new or refurbished building projects underway as part of a full Estate Masterplan Investment Programme. Placemarque was appointed directly by MMU to deliver an external wayfinding strategy that sits within the wider masterplan. With so much construction underway, it was important that our strategy had temporary elements and could be implemented in phases.
What we did:
We worked closely with the university’s marketing and communications team to create an initial temporary wayfinding solution to improve the sense of arrival at the All Saints and Birley Campus. We updated the existing totems to improve campus legibility for upcoming events and open days, whilst construction was underway. We improved navigability by introducing heads-up mapping at gateway locations. 
The temporary signs are taller and have an enlarged spine to make them visible from a greater distance on all major routes across the campus. The totems are engaging and reflect the vibrancy of the MMU brand.
