We created a full national masterplan for pedestrian signage and wayfinding for Qatar in preparation for the forthcoming world cup in 2022. Challenging climatic conditions combined with the currently uncoordinated approach to public realm has resulted in environment that doesn’t actively encourage pedestrian movement.
The slim angled concrete sign structures are informed by interplay between the strong shadows and light found in Qatar. Warm toned materials such as Corten are used to complement the light in the Gulf, also reflected in the mapping colour palette.
Working closely with a team of public realm design disciplines, including landscape architecture, lighting design, transport and infrastructure design we have developed a detailed design guide.
