The Challenge

We created a full national masterplan for pedestrian signage and wayfinding for Qatar in preparation for the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup. Challenging climate conditions, combined with the currently uncoordinated approach to the public realm, has resulted in an environment that doesn’t actively encourage pedestrian movement.

What we did

The slim, angled concrete sign structures take inspiration from the interplay between the strong shadows and light found in Qatar. Warm-toned materials such as Corten are used to complement the light in the Gulf, which you can also see reflected in the mapping colour palette.
