Meet Lauren, our new designer

We welcomed Lauren Kaye to the team last month as a senior designer.

Lauren joins us from Capital&Centric, where she cut her teeth as a designer. Over her six years at the ambitious Manchester developer, she worked her way up from a junior graphic designer to Head of Creative.

In fine Placemarque tradition, we’ve asked her to share a bit about herself. Here’s five minutes with Lauren.

What’s your favourite TV show?

My current favourite TV show is The Bear, the most stressful but fulfilling watch!

But I will always love The Parent Trap, my favourite childhood movie.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a hairdresser like my mum or a doctor like my auntie. I’m clearly influenced by the women around me.

What are some of your hobbies?

I’ve got an eclectic mix of hobbies, from hiking in the peaks and exploring new places, to taking photos with my film camera and crocheting. I also love good food – but not if I have to cook it.

What excites you about wayfinding?

Wayfinding simply put is clever design with a clear purpose.

The main reason I pursued a career in graphic design was because I love being creative with a purpose – solving a problem through design.

What past accomplishments do you think will help you in your new role?

In my previous role I designed and planned the wayfinding for a couple of refurbished grade II listed mill apartment buildings.

It was a huge challenge as the buildings are like a maze, but now they’re easy to navigate as a resident or a visitor. It was a great insight into what designing for wayfinding entails and gave me the bug for a career in wayfinding design.

What are you most looking forward to in your new position?

I’m looking forward to a new challenge, recharging my mind with new ideas and getting the creative juices flowing. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people and getting out of my comfort zone.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

If I can make something myself, I will.

I love making my friends presents; from crocheting baby blankets, embroidering tote bags, drawing their wedding venue. I’ve also painted most of the art around my house.

Welcome to the team, Lauren!
