It’s Showtime in Blackpool

Showtown in Blackpool is an immersive, one-of-a-kind museum that puts Blackpool centre stage. Think: magic, circus, seaside,  shows, dance and Illuminations.

We have been working with concept creative Casson Mann and branding specialist True North on this unique project. The museum’s modus operandi is fun and laughter, and this spills out into every aspect of the museum’s brand.

We have put together an internal wayfinding strategy that reinforces the fun and silliness of the museum’s vibrant brand, with bold and brightly coloured signage that embodies the feel of a circus or grand show, with playful props inspired by Blackpools heritage.

The ground floor of the building will be a retail space for Showtown. The wayfinding and signage will guide the visitors to the museum experience on the first floor.

Sue Manley, Placemarque’s Strategy Director, said

“Once you’re inside the museum, the exhibition guides visitors around. The main consideration for us as wayfinders was to work with the architects and branding team to make the most of the entranceway, stairs and landing and reinforce the fun branding at that important entrance point.”

The entrance lobby therefore features iconic objects “blown in” from the beach: an oversized ice cream, seagull, deckchair and beach windmill all hanging from the ceiling (but, of course!).

Showtown opened this month, so be sure to check it out if you’re in this neck of the woods.
